Golden Girl

Family Newborn Shoot - Sandhurst, Berkshire

Combining one of my two favourite types of photography shoots, beautiful golden hour evenings and babies! With the beautiful summer evenings we FINALLY got throughout July and August, I had the perfect cloudless sky to shoot a newborn shoot for this gorgeous couple and their 8 week old baby girl.

8 weeks old is usually at the top end of the age range for a newborn shoot. After this age babies start to lose their newborn squishiness and start developing their own look, however they first go through a lot of changes to their facial features, where they don't seemingly look like themselves for quite a while. I usually recommend pushing back photos after 8 weeks until closer to a year old, when they start to look more like themselves.

My favourite meadow for golden hour shoots is near Sandhurst, Berkshire. It's beautiful and relaxing grasses feel wild and unkept, and the low tree line means the low evening sun lingers for the perfect amount of time to catch those golden halos.

For evening shoots with newborn babies, the time doesn't always matter as much as they often haven't yet settle themselves into a routine. Make sure they have a good feed before we start and most often than not, the new sensory surroundings of being out in the golden sun will keep them calm and attentive for your family golden hour photography shoot.
